50. The Resurrection
of the Lord.
It was not all over
yet. The Promised One cannot remain in the grave. The promise cannot
die. What did the Lord say to his disciples? "The Son of Man will be
crucified and killed. But on the third day he will rise again." The
tearful Sabbath was over. Early on Sunday morning - friendly morning
stars may have been in the sky - in the gleam of the friendly morning
stars, some pious women, friends and relatives of Jesus, also went out
to the tomb with spices. They wanted to do the last duty of love to the
dear deceased and embalm him according to the custom of their time. On
the way, one said sorrowfully to the other: ‘Who will roll the stone
from the grave for us?’ But how often does a weak person want to worry
when God has already provided?
When they came to the garden, the stone had already been rolled away.
The tomb was open. There was no longer a corpse in it. An angel was
sitting on the right, like a young man in a long, white robe. The women
were terrified at the sight of him. The angel said: "Do not be afraid!
You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified one. He is no
longer here, he has risen from the dead." Yes, he showed them the empty
place where Jesus had lain. ‘Go,’ he said, "and tell his disciples. Why
do you seek the living among the dead?"
Man cannot quickly grasp great joy. Indeed, the greatest joy itself is a
terror. The women fled with terror and joy from the garden into the city
and told the disciples what they had seen and heard. But the disciples
did not believe them. The women's speech was like a dream to them.
However, two of them, Peter and John, went out to the tomb themselves
and found it just as the women had said. The linen cloth in which Joseph
had wrapped the dead man lay together in one place. A cloth that had
been wrapped around his head was not lying with the linen. It was folded
up in a separate place.
