Happiness and misfortune
(Glück und Unglück) 1815
What did a doctor say to a farmer? “You
country people,” he said, ”always have it good. If the grain has grown
little, you sell it for an expensive price. If it is cheap, you have a
lot to sell and make a lot of money.” -
“Conversely, Mr. Doctor,” said the farmer, ”we can't get a green branch.
Because if the grain is expensive, we don't have much to sell. But when
we have a lot, it's cheap and yet it doesn't make us rich.” -
Also well given.
